Seat of House Ashford, a castle of white stone upon the southern bank of the Cockleswhent, with a market town grown up beneath its walls. The white sun-and-chevron of its lords has flown over the river crossing since the days of the Gardener Kings.
Ashford Meadow
The broad meadow across the river from the castle is famed throughout the Seven Kingdoms as a tourney ground. Greatest of all was the tourney held there in the year 209 after the Conquest, where a hedge knight stood trial of seven against the blood of the dragon, and princes and champions broke lances before half the chivalry of the realm. Singers tell of that meadow still, and lords of the Reach yet vie for the honor of a place in the lists at Ashford.
