Twin watchtowers astride the high road where it narrows to a thread between the peaks, joined by a covered bridge of weathered stone. This is the western door of the Vale of Arryn, and no host has ever forced it, though a dozen armies dashed themselves against it in the days of the mountain kings. The rocks below have earned the pass its grim name.
The Knight of the Gate
Command of the pass is given to the Knight of the Gate, an honor bestowed by the Lord of the Eyrie upon a trusted sword. By ancient custom the knight calls a challenge to all who approach: who would pass the Bloody Gate? Those who come in the name of the Arryns are bid enter freely; all others must turn back or die upon the road.
