Seat of House Lydden, set among the hills of the eastern westerlands astride the goldroad. The white badger of the Lyddens is a fitting device for a house whose hold burrows deep into the hillside.
The Goldroad
The great road from Lannisport to King's Landing climbs through the hills beneath Deep Den's walls, and the castle serves as guard and waystation upon it. Merchants with gold-laden wagons shelter in its shadow, and armies marching between the west and the crownlands have camped in its vales.
The Badger's Sett
Much of the castle is dug into the living rock, its cellars and halls running far beneath the hill. In war the Lyddens can withdraw into their den and defy a besieger long after lesser castles would have yielded, and it is said no lord of Deep Den has ever been starved out.
