Seat of House Glover, a motte-and-bailey of timber in the northern wolfswood east of Sea Dragon Point, five leagues south of the Bay of Ice. It was the royal seat of the Glovers when they were kings in the Age of Heroes. An old castle, and never a strong one.
The Motte
A cavernous longhall crowns a wide hill with a flattened top, and from one end of it a watchtower climbs fifty feet higher, the tallest thing raised this side of the northern mountains. Below lie stables and paddock, smithy, well, and sheepfold, ringed by deep ditches, a sloping earthen dike, and a palisade of logs, with fields of oat and barley beyond.
Taken and Restored
With Galbart and Robett Glover fighting south of the Neck, only Lady Sybelle held the castle, and in A Clash of Kings Asha Greyjoy took it from the north with a thousand ironborn. Theon Greyjoy called the prize a wooden pisspot on a hill. Asha abandoned the walls when Stannis Baratheon and the northern mountain clans came through the wolfswood, and Stannis gave Deepwood Motte back to the Glovers.
