Seat of House Rowan in the northern Reach, set among rolling groves between the headwaters of the Mander and the western hills. Its lords have long stood as wardens of the northern marches of the Reach, facing the lands of the westermen beyond.
The Golden Tree
The Rowans trace their line to Rowan Gold-Tree, a daughter of Garth Greenhand. The tales say she wrapped an apple tree in her golden hair when a faithless lover spurned her, and the tree bore golden fruit ever after. A golden tree upon silver has been the banner of Goldengrove since days beyond the memory of maesters, and the grove that gave the castle its name is said to descend from that first enchanted stock.
