Seat of the Fossoways of the green apple, a young castle by the reckoning of the Reach, raised in the lands between Cider Hall and the crossings of the Mander. Its lords are a cadet branch of the red-apple Fossoways, sprung from the elder trunk within living memory of the oldest chronicles of the tourney field.
The Green Apple
The green-apple line was born at the great tourney of Ashford Meadow in the year 209 after the Conquest, when Ser Raymun Fossoway, newly knighted, took the field against his own cousin in defense of a hedge knight's cause and painted his apple green to mark the parting. His heirs took New Barrel for their seat, and though the two branches feast together at weddings and harvest fairs, the rivalry of red and green apples has never entirely sweetened.
