Sentinel Stand is one of the abandoned castles of the Night's Watch, standing on the Wall between the Shadow Tower and Greyguard. Its name recalls the tall sentinel trees of the north, though no brother has kept the watch from its towers in living memory.

The Watch raised nineteen castles along the Wall in the fullness of its strength, yet never manned more than seventeen at once, and as the black brothers grew fewer the castles were closed one after another. Sentinel Stand was given over to snow and silence long ago, its halls cold, its duties passed to the garrison of the Shadow Tower to the west.
