Seat of House Swann, rising above the river Slayne where it runs down from the red mountains toward the southern sea. The castle commands the river crossings of the southern marches, and its lords rank among the most powerful of the storm lords.
The Swans of the Slayne
The banner of Stonehelm bears two swans, one black and one white, ever facing one another in combat. The Swanns are famed for prudence as much as prowess; it is said in the stormlands that a Swann is never on the losing side of a war, for the house keeps a son on each. Their strength in the marches has made Stonehelm a bulwark against Dorne for a thousand years.
