Ruined summer palace of House Targaryen, raised in the marches where the stormlands look toward Dorne in the days of King Daeron the Good. Lightly walled and built for pleasure rather than war, it was the best-loved seat of the dragon kings until fire consumed it.
The Tragedy
In the year 259 after the Conquest, flames engulfed Summerhall on the night the king's line gathered there, and King Aegon, fifth of his name, perished in the burning hall along with Ser Duncan of his Kingsguard and others beside. What Aegon sought there amid wildfire and dragon eggs, no chronicle tells in full. On that same night of grief was born Prince Rhaegar, and the melancholy of the ruins never left him; in later years he would ride there alone with his harp and sing among the blackened stones.
