Twin castles of grey stone standing on either bank of the Green Fork, joined by a great arched bridge that is the only crossing of the river for leagues in any direction. Men name the seat of House Frey the Crossing, and its lords have grown fat on the tolls of six hundred years.
The Crossing
The bridge took three generations to raise, and when at last it stood complete the Freys walled it in stone and made it their own. Every lord, merchant, and army that would pass the Green Fork dry-shod must pay the Lord of the Crossing his due, and the price rises with the need of those who ask.
The Water Tower
At the center of the span rises the Water Tower, its foundations sunk into the riverbed itself. From its heights, archers command the bridge in both directions, so that neither castle may be taken while the other holds.
