Woodswatch-by-the-Pool is one of the abandoned castles of the Night's Watch, standing on the Wall between Oakenshield and Sable Hall. It takes its name from the still water beside which it was raised and the watch its brothers once kept over the haunted forest beyond the ice.

For centuries brothers stood Woodswatch's battlements, looking north over the green sea of the haunted forest for sign of wildling bands moving toward the Wall. When the Watch could no longer spare the men, the castle was closed, and now only ice and silence keep the watch by the pool, its gate barred against a wood that no longer feels any eyes upon it.
