A dancing girl out of Lys, pale as milk and lithe in her youth, who spoke in a manner no ear in Westeros could place and whose rivals called her Misery, the White Worm, for her look and her reputation both. She came to King's Landing to dance and became the favored lover of Prince Daemon Targaryen, and by about 105 AC she was carrying his child on Dragonstone. Daemon gave her a dragon egg for it. That gift so angered King Viserys I that he ordered the egg returned and the woman sent back to Lys, and she lost the babe in a storm on the narrow sea during the crossing. Age thickened her body in the years that followed, but nothing thickened her wits, and when she returned to the city she built out of whores and servants and gutter boys the finest web of informers in the realm. Long after her death Lord Brynden Rivers was reckoned to have rivaled Lady Misery as a master of whisperers, which is the highest praise the Citadel ever paid her.
When Prince Daemon wanted blood for his stepson Lucerys, it was a pale stranger who carried the coin to Blood and Cheese, and when the gold cloaks took Blood at the gate he confessed under torture that a pale older woman the harlots called Misery had hired him. They never found her. She was Daemon's mistress of whisperers by then, and after King's Landing fell she served Queen Rhaenyra in that office in all but name, never sitting the small council, wearing a hooded robe of black velvet lined with blood-red silk. Mushroom credits her with proposing that Alicent and Helaena be given to a brothel to be got with bastards, a tale Archmaester Gyldayn discounts. What is not disputed is that she it was who told Rhaenyra that Daemon had been sharing his bed with Nettles at Maidenpool, and out of that came the queen's warrant for the brown girl's head and the last flight of Sheepstealer; that she caught out Ser Denys Woodwright and Ser Thoron True through a whore one of them bedded, and saw both hanged for plotting to free Lord Corlys; and that Septon Eustace lays Queen Helaena's fall from the window of Maegor's Holdfast at her feet, for choosing that night to tell the girl how her son Maelor had died at Bitterbridge. She warned Rhaenyra of the dark that was coming, and when the queen fled the riots Mysaria stayed behind in the Red Keep and was taken there by Ser Perkin the Flea's gutter knights. Perkin offered her her life if she could walk naked and whipped from the castle to the Gate of the Gods. She got halfway, and died on the cobbles of the city she had spent her life listening to.
